Harvest at Trewithen: Tips from the allotment

Celebrate the late summer harvest and gain expert insight into successful home growing at this informative and practical allotment workshop, hosted in Trewithen’s thriving allotment.

The session begins with an introduction to the allotment space, including behind-the-scenes photos showing how the beds were created – from soil layering and composting to planning an effective planting layout. Enjoy a walkabout with Trewithen’s kitchen garden expert, Neil, who will lead a Q&A and share his tips for a productive, healthy plot and growing prize-winning veg. From surprising plant pairings, building bamboo frames, to growing 6ft long carrots…

The workshop has two main themes of:

Beds design & planting layout – designing beds and planting to have the best chance of a bountiful harvest.

Weed & pest management – exploring organic methods for controlling weeds and garden pests – all the usual offenders - without harsh chemicals.

Neil will also talk through the making the most of harvesting the fruits of your labour, giving a demonstration of onion braiding. At the end of the morning, you will have the opportunity to pick your own fresh produce straight from the allotment to take home and enjoy.
